Rip on Good Morning America Health Online

Monday, July 20th, 2009

I just spent the last 11 days at the Esselstyn family farm in upper state New York with my parents, brothers, sister, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, and nephews. All in all, eighteen of us converged on the place for nearly two weeks of plant-strong eating, runs, yoga, bike rides, swimming, games, and late night jawing. In the middle of it I jumped on an Amtrak train for an easy two hour ride along the mighty Hudson river with the Catskill mountains hovering in the distance to do a tape to live piece for Good Morning America Health. Here it is!!!!

Grilled Zucchini & Avocado Panini’s!!!

Friday, June 5th, 2009

Here is my office mate, Adam Butler, of The Butler Brothers Ad Agency in East Austin preparing and then getting ready to chow down on a steaming hot grilled zucchini and avocado panini on whole grain hemp bread. Adam was one of my original Engine 2, plant-strong, pilot study guinea pigs and has been plant-determined and plant-healthy for two years and counting. He was one of four Engine 2′ers who were able to get their total cholesterol to 100 mg/dl or below…Wow!!!!…the equivalent of a rural Chinaman or a Papua Highlander from New Guinea. Adam lives and breathes this lifestyle and was overheard today saying that the answer to the health care crisis is NOT more legislation-it’s people learning to stop eating contaminated and disease promoting foods. I hear you loud and clear, Adam. You rock!!! Here’s an E2 shout out to my buddy, office mate, and Engine 2  rock-star, Adam Butler!!!

Robyn O’Brien, author of The Unhealthy Truth.

Sunday, May 24th, 2009

It’s time for me to give a big, big Engine 2 shout out to Robyn O’Brien, the whistle blowing Mom from Colorado who’s impressive and compelling book, The Unhealthy Truth: How Our Food is Making us Sick — And What We Can Do About It, was just released. When the youngest of her four children came down with a food allergy she starting digging around to find answers. The  relationship she unearthed between the toxicity of America’s food and the connections to big business and big money is nothing short of startling. Robyn was in Austin, Texas promoting her book Friday. She spoke at the Livestrong headquarters at noon and Book People on North Lamar at 6:00 PM. Robyn will be making waves and turning heads as her message reaches the masses. Again, here’s an E2 shout out to you Robin.  You got spirit and  guts!! Go get em!!!!

Robyn and Rip meet to share their message and books.

John Joseph and me at Emo's after he lit the place up!!!

Every once in a while you meet someone who rocks your world. That happened to me last night when I met John Joseph, the lead singer for the punk rock band the Cro-Mag’s. He has more energy than the Tazmanian Devil, is more charismatic than Regis, and has led more lives than an alley cat. He’s a true rebel rouser and when his book, Meat is for Pussies, comes out in July it will turn heads, open eyes and rock worlds. You will see why eating animals will make you wimpy and then spit you out and kill you. Here’s a loud shout out to my man, John Joseph, and his insatiable plant-strong appetite for making a difference in the world. WAY TO BE JJ!!!!!!!!!!
